Shambala 2012, showcasing global talent, not least the colouring in of the Shambalans, a wonderfully eccentric bunch of fine art festival goers that did a spectacular job of colouring in this enormous canvas. Here's a colouring in before and after:
This painting was hand illustrated by Maria after she read Richard Holmes' book 'The Age Of Wonder' that details the scientific revolution that spread across Britain at the end of the eighteenth century.
Holding telescopes in the picture are siblings William and Caroline Herschel, astronomers who made a catalogue of discoveries.
Amongst many new observations like detecting infrared radiation and Martian polar caps, William discovered Uranus (insert your own joke here).
Caroline too made many astronomical discoveries including eight new comets and eleven new nebulae. Caroline was the first Woman in the world to be paid for her contribution to science and in 1828 was awarded a gold medal from the Royal Astronomical Society.
